Kate writes:
The public house was under the licensee William Reginald
Ladds from 1920s till mid to late 30s, my grandparents. My father
and his 4 brothers and one sister were born there. I remember as
a child been taken to see it when it was demolished and we for many
years had in mums garden one of the keystones from above the door.
And Mary has told me:
My Mother and Father and I ran the Cross Keys until it
was demolished. Their names were Agnes and Bill Snell with Daughter
Eileen.. I have photos of the inside of the pub.
We all lived there as a family including my two Sons, my father
had both legs amputated and therefore his main job was the book-keeping
while my mother and I did all the cellar work ordering stocking
up and serving etc....
The day we closed, we had a lock in for all the regulars, and told
them to take any momentos they wanted, they cleared the whole place
even bricks from the fireplace.
